Contact
Movers
Get estimates from several moving companies, choose one
and set the moving date (coincide with your closing date). Ask your
insurance company to adequately protect your household goods and
vehicles while en route and initially after you arrive at your new
destination.
Before
You Leave
Be sure you have taken care of the following:
 |
Have appliances that you are taking with you serviced.
|
 |
Check with the utility companies in the city/town
to which you are moving to and ask them about necessary fees
and deposits for their installation. |
 |
Remit the utility deposits where necessary for
the following: Gas, electric, water, telephone and cable |
 |
Make sure you have sufficient cash
or traveler’s checks to cover all your costs while moving (services
- food and expenses – most moving companies require cash or
a certified bank check upon delivery of goods), until you have
made banking connections, especially if you are moving out of
state, or out of town. |

Notify
Service and Utilities
Your
Real Estate Agent cannot transfer your utilities.
You must notify such services yourself. This is especially important
with regard to the electric company. Before your closing date be
sure to contact the electric company and tell them to transfer the
bill over to you as of the closing date and to be sure they leave
the electricity on. If they turn it off it is likely to take a week
for them to hook it up again. Other services and utilities are:
 |
Gas/Oil |
 |
Water |
 |
Telephone |
 |
Cable |
